Spring hath sprung

Over the winter my camera didn’t get as much love as I wanted to give it. There were a couple times it was covered in snow and wrapped in a towel like a newborn, and we saw some nice scenes, but we both just wanted more.

In truth, I took a lot more photos over the winter than I had expected. Weather in NY is often dreary during the first few months, with sub par lighting, gray and diffuse through overcast clouds, if the sun is even in the sky by the time I’m out of work. But even on those overcast days, a good subject can overcome those struggles.

And now, spring is here, and instead of fighting the cold and poor lighting, I will be fighting my schedule. I have been dying to take photos of some foliage, something with more color than white and brown. On Saturday, the maple tree in my back yard blossomed, and I uncoiled from all the tension I had stored in waiting. The sky was absolutely clear and blue, the blossoms pink, and a few sparrows were bravely searching the area for nesting materials.

The series aesthetically reflects a colorful spring day, marking a perfect start to the year ahead. Enjoy the photos, and take some time yourself to enjoy the sun and the birds. They miss you as much as you miss them.
